The house
A calm, luxurious stay
minutes from the beach.
Desert Beach House stands on a quiet lane off the ECR, behind the coconut
palms at Chinna Mudaliar Chavadi — a beach resort in Puducherry built as a
single home, laid out as two individual villas, with a garden and a
swimming pool outside.
Most groups take the whole house — nine people, both kitchens, everybody
under one roof. Inside, the architecture does the talking: a double-height
stairwell lit by a coffered skylight, terracotta jaali screens throwing
patterns across the floor all afternoon, teak joinery and cool stone
underfoot. The dining table is big enough that everyone actually sits down
together.
Auroville Beach is a five-minute walk. Serenity Beach is ten minutes by car.
The French Quarter and the Promenade are twenty. Come back, rinse off, and
get into the pool.
